After you get your first deck of cards, it's important that you cleanse it and charge it with your energies. Much as you would do with crystals and other magickal objects, it's important to energetically cleanse your deck(s) on a somewhat regular or routine basis.
There is no one way to do this. There are so many ways to cleanse the deck that merely requires ingredients from your kitchen cabinet and the planetary bodies of the sky. It's ok if you don't have a fancy herbal bundle to burn.
Especially for those of you new to the craft, here are some suggestions on how to cleanse your own deck (and most of these can be applied to all other magickal objects):
Charge your deck with solar power by letting it sit outside on a sunny day or keeping it on your window sill in direct sunlight.
Give your cards a moon bath, keeping in mind the moon phase and the positions of the other planets, and charge it with those celestial energies.
Sprinkle some sea salt on the deck, and say, "I bathe this sacred deck in the white light. I cleanse it so it can assist me in my magick. And so it is."
Place a sprig of Rosemary or other purifying herbs like garden sage sprinklings on the deck.
Bathe the deck in incense smoke or the smoke of a burning herb bundle. Again, use herbs based on what type of energies you would like your deck to possess.
If your cauldron is big enough, place it in there with the lid on top for 24 hours.
Wrap the deck in a scarf and bury it in the Earth. Dig it up after a few days.
Whisper your intentions into the deck, and transmit healing light energies to it through your hands.
Place a stone, clear quartz crystal, a piece of black tourmaline or any other rock of your choice on top of the deck.
Sprinkle some holy water onto it.
Use a bell or Tibetan singing bowl to cleanse the deck with sound.
Lay the deck on a pentagram or significant sigil.
Petition tour goddess, guides and ancestors to bless your deck while or after doing any of the above.
There are so many ways to energetically cleanse your tarot cards, so don't be afraid to get creative!
